Video to MP3 converterwithout uploading anything
Pull the sound out of a video and save it as an MP3. Drop an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file, choose the quality and download the audio. The conversion runs on your own device, so the video never leaves it.

How to convert a video to MP3
Step 01
Choose the video
Drop the file on the tool or click to pick it. MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV, MPEG-TS and Ogg files work.
Step 02
Pick the quality
192 kbps suits most music. Use 128 kbps for talks and voice notes, or 320 kbps for the best sound.
Step 03
Convert
The audio is decoded and encoded as MP3 right in your browser. A progress bar shows how far it is, and you can stop at any time.
Step 04
Listen and download
Play the MP3 on the page to check it, then download it. It keeps the name of the video.
What you get
Private by design
There is no server doing the work. The video is read by your browser and the MP3 is written by your browser, so nobody else ever gets the file.
Large videos welcome
The video is read in pieces as the audio is needed, never loaded whole, so long recordings work without an upload limit.
Fast on your hardware
The audio is decoded by the browser's own media engine and encoded by LAME, the reference MP3 encoder, compiled to WebAssembly.
Plays everywhere
MP3 opens on every phone, computer, car stereo and audio editor. The audio keeps its sample rate and its channels.
How the conversion works
A video file is a container that holds separate tracks: one for the picture and usually one for the sound. Converting to MP3 means opening the container, taking only the audio track and leaving the picture behind, so the result is far smaller than the video.
Most videos store their sound as AAC or Opus. Those are decoded into plain audio with the WebCodecs feature of your browser, then encoded again as MP3 at the bitrate you chose. When the sound of the video already is MP3, it is copied as it is, without losing any quality, and the bitrate you chose does not apply.
The bitrate decides the size and the quality. At 192 kbps a minute of audio takes about 1.4 MB, at 128 kbps about 1 MB and at 320 kbps about 2.4 MB. Encoding cannot add quality that the video did not have, so 320 kbps only helps when the original sound is good.
Everything happens in the tab you have open. Speed depends on your device, and a long video takes a moment longer on a phone than on a computer. Keep the tab open until the MP3 is ready.
Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The video is read and converted by your browser on your device. This site has no server that receives files, and you can check in the Network tab of the developer tools that nothing is sent.
Which video formats can I convert?
MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV, MPEG-TS and Ogg files, which covers videos from phones, cameras, screen recorders and most downloads. AVI and WMV files are not supported.
Is there a file size limit?
The tool sets none. The video is read in pieces, so even a long one fits. Only the MP3 is kept in memory, and at 192 kbps an hour of audio is about 85 MB.
Which quality should I choose?
192 kbps is right for most music and video soundtracks. 128 kbps is enough for speech, such as talks, lessons and podcasts. 320 kbps gives the largest file and the best sound.
Why does the tool say my browser cannot decode the audio?
Some videos use an audio format the browser has no decoder for, such as the AC-3 or DTS sound of some films and TV recordings. Chrome and Edge decode the most formats; trying one of them usually works.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in current versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on Android and iPhone. A long video takes longer on a phone than on a computer.
Can I convert audio files too?
Yes. WAV, FLAC, M4A and Ogg files can be turned into MP3 the same way.
Can I convert a YouTube link?
No. The tool converts files that are on your device. It does not download videos from websites.
